Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf is a Welsh Medium comprehensive school based in Llandaff North, Cardiff. Every year pupils in the 6th form choose a local charity to support; one that resonates with the school community.
In September 2022, the school was particularly saddened by the story of 3 girls who had recently joined the 6th form from Ysgol Llanhari, having been devastated by the sudden loss of their close friend. Thankfully, 2wish was at hand to support the girls and their families, helping them to process their grief in the wake of this heartbreak. As a result of this YGG Glantaf, rallied their school community and chose to fundraise for 2wish, which we are extremely grateful for.
The sixth formers started their fundraising efforts with a sponsored walk challenge which saw the entire 6th form and faculty, including Head of 6th Form Hefin Griffiths, walk from their school in Llandaff North, along the Ely river trail, across the Cardiff Bay Barrage before reaching their destination of the Senedd. It was reported by the 6th form staff that “the atmosphere of unity on the day was wonderful, and a real testament to how important our young people regard the work of 2wish.”
Collectively, the 6th form students and staff raised more than £4000 from this challenge alone. Further to these incredible fundraising efforts, there has also been participation in the Cardiff Half Marathon.
We’ve found the camaraderie and community from YGG Glantaf so encouraging and inspiring, here at 2wish. The hard work and dedication shown in preparation for their fundraisers, as well as at the events themselves is truly infectious and we wish them every success with any future fundraising events they organise.
The funds raised will make a huge difference to those affected by the sudden death of a child or young person. This total raised so far is the equivalent of two brand new bereavement rooms, seventy-two play therapy sessions for bereaved children, or one hundred memory boxes. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and hard work.
More recently, the students have hosted a Christmas Quiz Night which saw them raise £500, bringing the grand total to over £5000 in just 4 months! What an incredible achievement. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
