We were honoured to welcome players from the Gym Gym Football Team to 2wish HQ recently, for a cheque presentation for the sum of £3147! Gym Gym is the Welsh-speaking society at Cardiff University, which currently competes in the IMG league. After the sudden passing of one of their players Josh Lloyd Roberts, the players were overwhelmed by the support they received in the wake of their grief.
During November 2023, members of the team took part in an epic running fundraiser in memory of Josh. They took on the astounding task of running 456 miles which is the distance from Caernarfon, to Goodison Park, to Cardiff, and then back to Caernarfon! These were all very important places in Josh’s life, and it felt like the perfect way to honour his memory.
Not only was it a poignant reminder of Josh’s love for sport and fitness, but the players also enjoyed the opportunity to come together to talk and share their memories of Josh whilst taking part in exercising together.
2wish has been instrumental in helping players of the Gym Gym Football team process the loss of their dear friend, for which they were extremely grateful. As a result, it was important for them as a group to give back to 2wish, so we can support others going through similarly difficult circumstances.
We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to the members of the Gym Gym Society and the football team for their astounding fundraising efforts. We’re sure Josh would be very proud of the amount raised, so others can be supported when affected by the sudden death of a child or young person. Diolch!
