In a generous act of community spirit, colleagues from Centrica’s Safety Assurance Team, part of British Gas Services and Solutions team, came together to support 2wish through their volunteering initiative. As part of their people and planet plan, Centrica have committed to inspire colleagues to give 100,000 days to build inclusive and sustainable communities by 2030.
This means that in 2025, they have committed to taking part in 11,200 volunteer days known internally throughout their organisation as ‘The Big Difference’. Collectively they are already making an incredible difference, showcased in their efforts in 2024 when over 7,200 colleagues gave their time to support more than 2,000 local and national causes.
Working Hard and Overcoming Challenges to Create a Haven
Selflessly giving up their time, the Centrica team spent two days untaking maintenance tasks at the 2wish respite cottage, Tŷ Uchaf, situated in Dyffryn, North Wales. Their efforts transformed the grounds as they took on some hard graft which included clearing turf and weeds, laying weed-proof membrane and laying stones, installing a new fire pit and constructing a large decking area, which included skilled work such as; levelling, framing and finishing.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the teams spirits remained high and they completed their tasks to an exceptionally high standard. This kindness and generosity donating not only their time but a collective variety of skills means that those who visit Tŷ Uchaf can continue to enjoy this peaceful and welcoming space, with even more comfort and luxury.
However, this project was more than just a couple of days service for the team at Centrica and British Gas. It served as a personal moment to pay tribute to the son of one of their own by giving back to families who may have been affected by similar circumstances.
