At 2wish, we believe that suicide prevention is a collective mission. That’s why we’re proud to be part of the National Suicide Prevention Network, a UK-wide initiative organised by The Royal Foundation and led by Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales. This powerful alliance brings together organisations across the UK working together to save lives and support those affected by suicide.
A United, Four-Nation Approach
This four-nation network includes organisations from England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, each contributing their unique strengths, perspectives, and approaches. From grassroots charities to national bodies, the network is united by a shared commitment: to better understand suicide, prevent it, and support communities in the aftermath.
Sharing Knowledge, Tackling Root Causes
Suicide is complex, and the circumstances that lead to it are often shaped by a range of social, emotional, and economic factors. By collaborating across borders and organisations, the National Suicide Prevention Network is able to share insights, data, and solutions that help us tackle these challenges more effectively. Together, we’re identifying patterns, highlighting risk factors, and developing strategies that make a real difference, both locally and nationally.
But our work goes beyond research and prevention. A key part of the network’s mission is to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide. Too often, silence and shame prevent people from seeking help. By speaking openly, sharing stories, and promoting understanding, we aim to create a culture where mental health is prioritised and support is accessible.
2wish’s Role in the Network
At 2wish, we bring our experience of supporting families, friends, and professionals bereaved by suicide to the network. We know how vital it is to have compassionate, timely support in the most difficult moments. Being part of this network allows us to amplify our voice, learn from others, and contribute to a stronger, more connected response to suicide across the UK.
Our connection to suicide is also deeply personal. In 2012, our founder and CEO Rhian Mannings lost her husband Paul to suicide just five days after the sudden death of their one-year-old son, George. That unimaginable loss and the isolation that followed became the driving force behind 2wish. Today, we provide support to those affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young adult aged 25 or under—support that we believe can help prevent similar tragedies. By offering immediate, compassionate care, we aim to reduce the risk of suicide among those left behind and ensure that no one has to face such loss alone.
A Powerful Conversation on World Mental Health Day
To mark World Mental Health Day, The Royal Foundation has released a powerful short film featuring His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in conversation with our founder and CEO, Rhian Mannings. The film coincides with the official launch of the National Suicide Prevention Network.
