2wish & RWK Goodman: Making a positive impact together

2wish are delighted to launch a new partnership with RWK Goodman. Beginning in May RWK Goodman will be supporting the 2wish coffee mornings in Bristol. The partnership has developed from a shared commitment to supporting people who have experienced unexpected or traumatic bereavement.

A Shared Mission to Support Bereaved Families

RWK Goodman’s Inquests, Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury teams are dedicated to helping families navigate the legal processes following the death of a loved one and to understand the full circumstances of the death, particularly where there’s ambiguity as to how the death occurred or questions about whether the death could have been avoided. “We have a shared goal of doing all we can to support and guide families in the aftermath of the death of a child or young adult and this partnership with 2wish will enable us to support even more families.”

The Importance of Coffee Mornings

2wish coffee mornings provide an invaluable space for bereaved families to find comfort, share their experiences, and build a supportive network. Many families describe feeling isolated after a bereavement, as many people around them struggle to know what to say or how to act around them. For RWK Goodman, supporting these events and directly contributing to a forum where families can find comfort and reassurance in each other’s company and shared experiences is vital. The 2wish team is always on hand so attendees can find out more about the other ways the charity can help, such as memory boxes, counselling, complimentary therapies or onward signposting for advice on specific issues.

RWK Goodman have found that different family members, such as aunts, uncles or grandparents of the child who died, can find these groups particularly valuable as they feel able to talk about the impact of the death on them in a way they don’t feel comfortable with in the family setting, as they are putting on a brave face for the sake of the child’s parents and siblings.

Connecting Professionals Through Networking Events

RWK Goodman is also proud to be working with 2wish to host professional networking events in Bristol too. These events will allow those working in this area, to come together and to share ideas for better supporting bereaved people and for also taking care of themselves when regularly involved supporting people through upsetting or traumatic events. The first of these events will take place in July and we’ll be sharing details shortly.

“Being able to do this in Bristol is really important to us and we feel really grateful to have this opportunity to help make a positive impact in our local community.”

RWK Goodman is a law firm which offers expert guidance in almost all areas of law.

The inquests, clinical negligence and personal injury teams have specialists who are focused on supporting families following a bereavement.

Guiding Families Through Legal Processes

Many families have questions about the circumstances of their loved ones’ death and want to understand how it came about, or to explore whether anyone was at fault for what happened. Investigating a claim can help answer these questions and potentially allow families to claim compensation if the death was caused, or contributed to by, negligence. Families often wish to explore this as a way of ensuring that the negligent treatment or events doesn’t happen to someone else. As well as obtaining compensation, RWK Goodman are often able to secure an apology, or to seek assurances that changes are made to avoid the same thing happening to others.

In some cases, a coroner will open an inquest to investigate the circumstances of a death and the family will usually be given status as an Interested Persons, which carries various entitlements and obligations. RWK Goodman can guide families through the inquest process and help them navigate the medical and legal complexities which arise.

They also have a team of specialist lawyers who can help with other legal issues which can arise following a death, such as administering the estate or applying for probate, family law arrangements or changing ownership of property or businesses.

To find out more about their services please see their dedicated bereavement page.

A Commitment to Community and Charity

RWK Goodman has a long history of supporting charities and are committed to acting responsibly and engaging authentically with their local communities.

Their experience is that as well as helping the charity and their service users, this also benefits their clients, and staff and contributes positively to the places where they live and work. RWK Goodman would encourage all businesses to consider how they can get involved with charities in their area.

“There are many different ways of supporting charities and there’s bound to be something your business can do to help whatever the business type, size or structure.”

Inspired by 2wish’s Mission and Story

The RWK Goodman team are hugely positive about the new partnership with 2wish. Having been inspired by hearing the story of 2wish Founder and CEO Rhian, they are all eager to be part of this meaningful partnership. The RWK Goodman team had no shortage of volunteers to support 2wish events, and several colleagues have committed to raise additional funds for their charity themselves already. Lily and Miryam, from our Inquests team, recently took on 2wish’s ‘Georgie’s challenge’ to raise awareness of the charity and to raise funds, which involved scaling Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and abseiling from the top!

Looking Ahead to a Meaningful Partnership

“The entire 2wish team are incredibly passionate, positive and driven, which makes it even more rewarding to work with them. We’re all looking forward to the various events and initiatives planned for the coming year.”

The priority for RWK Goodman and 2wish is to be able to help as many families as possible. Through working together we hope to be able to raise awareness of the charity’s invaluable support services, and for more families to be aware of the help they can access if they’re involved in a linked legal process, such as an inquest, claim or probate process.

We are really excited about joining forces and the positive impact we can make together.
