Volunteering

Welcome to the 2wish Volunteer Community

At 2wish, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. By sharing your time, skills and compassion, you help make a real difference to the families we support and you become part of our 2wish family.
As a volunteer, you’ll have the chance to:

• Meet like minded people who care deeply about making a difference
• Gain new skills, experiences, and confidence
• Feel a real sense of community, purpose, and achievement
• Have fun supporting us at events, activities, and community days
• Build friendships that last
• And most importantly, help 2wish support families when they need us most

We value every moment you give and offer training and support to ensure you feel confident in your role. No matter how much time you can give, you’re welcome here and we’d love for you to be part of our volunteer community.

Say Hello To The Volunteer Hub

We are excited to welcome volunteers to our new Volunteer Hub at the 2wish main office in Llantrisant.

The hub provides a dedicated, safe and welcoming space where volunteers can come together to complete their tasks in a calm and supportive environment. Designed with comfort and connection in mind, it offers a place to step away from home, work alongside others and feel part of the wider 2wish community.
This new space reflects our commitment to supporting our volunteers and ensuring they feel valued, supported and proud of the difference they make.

Meet the Team Behind Our Volunteers

“Hi, I’m Gaynor, the Volunteer Manager at 2wish. My journey began in 2018 when I first discovered 2wish and was inspired to get involved as a volunteer. Through volunteering, I found a supportive and compassionate community, met incredible people, and discovered just how meaningful giving time can be. Today, I’m proud to support our volunteers and help others find their place within this special community, where every contribution is valued and truly makes a difference.”

"Hi, I’m Cat, the Volunteer Coordinator at 2wish. I began my journey as a volunteer in 2025 and soon discovered the incredible impact our volunteers make. Having personal experience of loss, I understand just how vital our support is for families at the most difficult times. Volunteering gave me a renewed sense of purpose and confidence, and today I’m proud to support and champion our amazing volunteers. If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with 2wish, I’d love to hear from you".

Welfare Officers

2wish currently provide a team of trained volunteers (Welfare officers) to attend some major running events, to provide support to individual runners and their families in the case of an emergency.

Following the sudden death of two runners at the Cardiff Half Marathon in 2018, the charity was approached by Run4Wales and the idea of Welfare Officers was discussed. These officers, who have received training from us, attend the events representing 2wish and are on hand, placed at event control, to support in the event of an emergency.

Depending on the size of the welfare team, officers are positioned at Event Information/Event Control and out on the course, with all team members connected by radio. If a situation arises, the team supports runners’ families by helping locate relatives and, if required, accompanying them to the local hospital, remaining with them for as long as needed.

In the event of a fatal incident, the welfare team at the hospital will sensitively take contact details (with consent) and ensure a memory box is offered.

Although we have supported some serious incidents, these are very much the exception. Since first attending events in 2018, we have made significant changes to how the day runs. We now bring along our pop‑up shop, collection buckets and, at times, our mascot Gorgeous George, helping to raise both funds and awareness.

At almost every event, you’ll also see many wonderful runners taking part in support of 2wish, and it’s always a pleasure to cheer them on. While we are there first and foremost to provide support if needed, these events are usually positive, uplifting days.
