On Friday (6th March), the beautiful Llanerch Vineyard once again opened its doors for 2wish’s much‑loved International Women’s Day celebration.
With sunshine pouring through the marquee and laughter filling the air, guests gathered for a sold‑out event that blended heartfelt storytelling, joyful surprises, and community spirit.
Although the ever‑brilliant Kate Lewis was sadly unable to join us this year, the day was in exceptionally safe hands thanks to journalist and presenter Mariclaire Carey‑Jones, who stepped in last‑minute and delivered a truly phenomenal performance as host. With her signature warmth, humour, and effortless professionalism, Mariclaire guided guests through the afternoon with grace and sparkle.
The heart of the event came from the stories shared by this year’s speakers, each bringing honesty, insight and inspiration.
Becky had the room completely captivated with her remarkable journey from international swimmer to Olympic bronze medallist in rowing. She spoke about breaking into the British Rowing team just ten weeks after forearm surgery and her determination through the intense challenges that followed. Her story highlighted both resilience and quiet courage.
Justine’s journey into presenting began unexpectedly when her cousin, designer Julien Macdonald, encouraged her to try hosting on QVC. What started as an uncertain step soon became a flourishing career across television, including joining the BBC Morning Live team. Her warm humour and honest reflections brought smiles and nods of recognition across the marquee.
Our Founder and CEO, Rhian spoke about the woman she had to become following the heartbreaking loss of her son George and her husband Paul, and how this ultimately resulted in the creation of 2wish and mission to ensure that others affected by sudden death in young people receive the support they need. Rhian spoke not just as a CEO, but as a mother, a wife and a woman who rebuilt herself piece by piece.
Midway through the afternoon, the event was interrupted by a pizza delivery driver with a special delivery. Guests exchanged confused looks until another delivery driver emerged and the duo suddenly burst into song and dance. The surprise performance, brought to life by Singeroo, had the whole room laughing and clapping along. It was a moment of pure joy that no one saw coming.
Guests enjoyed a delicious two course meal while taking in the vineyard setting, which offered the perfect backdrop for conversation and connection. The relaxed environment encouraged guests to unwind, chat and enjoy being part of something meaningful.
A heartfelt thank you goes to South Wales Safety, whose generous sponsorship made this year’s celebration possible. Their support helps ensure that 2wish can continue bringing people together in meaningful ways while raising vital funds for families affected by sudden bereavement.
A warm thank you also goes to our amazing Business Ambassador, John Williams and HSBC for kindly providing gratuity bags for all attendees. Their thoughtful contribution was appreciated by guests and added a lovely finishing touch to the day.
This year’s International Women’s Day event was filled with warmth, inspiration and joyful surprises. From moving stories to unexpected performances, it reminded everyone of the strength found in coming together and celebrating remarkable women.
Thank you to all who attended, supported and helped create such a memorable afternoon. We look forward to welcoming you again next year for another celebration of women, community and connection.
A massive thank you to long time supporter and one of our amazing charity ambassadors, Jonathan Crimmins for capturing the day so beautifully.
